Peorias Picture of Diversity: playground on the left - porn shop on the right
This is the Bus Station in downtown Peoria. The porn shop (SWINGERS WORLD) was there first, so we guess that makes it okay to put playground equipment (YWCA) a street away. But if the kiddie park was there first, that would be a NO, NO, NO! And you thought DISCRIMINATION DIDN'T PLAY IN PEORIA.
Ever wondered what the heck that slogan on the building has to do with anything, "EMPOWERING WOMEN. ELIMINATING RACISM" First of all, to quote Jock Ewing (this should date me for you), "No-one gives you power. You take it." And to quote William Raspberry, in Peoria, speaking for the NAACP, (I paraphrase) "You will never eliminate racism. It is like the rain. Get a slicker."
But of course, Peoria has to plaster a publicly financed building with sentiments appealing to those living in a culture of victimization and those bureaucrats that making a living, pimping the plight of the powerless and racismed.

The bus station is one of the most underutilized assets in the city. Look a little further... parking lots on 2 1/2 sides. Pawn shop and empty buildings across the street. Overseas, a bus station like this would be a hub of commercial activity but in Peoria it is just wasted architecture.
Do you know why? In Europe, the middle class used mass transport. In Peoria, the middle class uses automobiles. Therefore, this bus depo is NOT a hive of commercial activity. The only people who use the bus are people who don't have a driver's license or are too poor to own and operate a car.
O know that environmentalists and other "new urbanism" people want that to not be the case, but it is.
In Europe the middle class most certainly drives cars when and where they are able. They drive downtown to where the bus depot is.
I hate anonymous blogs, bloggers feel they can spout truth or un-truth without reprisal!

Perhaps you should take this into account. Maybe if you don’t want your kids near a porn shop, you should not take them near a porn shop. Call me crazy, but if you don’t like something, don’t do it. Perhaps you should explain to your kids about places like that, what ever your beliefs are. If you’re for it, let your kids know that there is a time and place for those and not to have crazy sex with whom ever and when ever. If you’re against it, then that is fine too. Explain to your kids about it. When is the right time to explain this to your kids? That is up to you as parents, but when they hit around age 13, you should say something. I know a friend's, sister that got pregnant at that age. If you are going to argue about something, don’t just B@#$! about it. Throw some feed back on both sides. Then give your opinion at the end. If you don’t. Then why would anyone take you seriously?
